Areas of Focus
Currently, the Foundation is focusing its work on two priorities:
- Increasing and retaining the number of nurses to care for the rapidly increasing senior population.
- Providing programs to improve the physical, social, spiritual, and intellectual lives of seniors.
These top priorities can be summarized as “health” and “home.”
Health
The U.S. population is aging at an unprecedented rate as life expectancy improves and baby boomers reach retirement age. By 2030, the number of Americans over 65 will increase by 30 million and account for 20 percent of the total population. Our nation’s ability to provide health care services to this growing senior population is woefully inadequate. There is an acute shortage of health care workers—in particular nurses. To meet the needs of the population, we will need one million new nurses in the next six years alone!
Home
We are an aging population due, in part, to significantly longer life expectancies. This underscores the importance of providing services that address the health issues of seniors, whether they live in retirement communities or in their own home.
The Touchmark Foundation is focused on addressing these two broad issues for our nation’s seniors through various programs.
The Touchmark Foundation was created to enhance the well-being of seniors, a population traditionally underserved in mainstream philanthropy.
